I just found out my cat lost his voice! I could barely hear him meow!

I told my parents bout it, but they just said it's nothing to be worried.

My cat can't meow, how am I suppose to know that is a good thing!? I'm afraid if I bring him to the vet they have to put him down. I don't want that...I love my cat with all my life.
